Testing a HDD

Hey,

 

How can I test if my HDD is still alive? It worked fine untill I installed it in my new build with everything being new. It is a 1TB HDD, from around 2006/8 maybe. It sometimes is detected in windows and sometimes on boot, there is a message along the lines that the drive failed with some smart 7 error or something like that.

SMART is a hard drive status system. If you're getting an error from it, that probably means bad things for the drive.
