Hi guys,

I wanted to do a fresh install of windows 10 on my new ssd but I can't get it to work. When I try to install it using the advanced option and select my ssd it says that I can't install it there because it has a gpt partition on it. I can't seem to get it off. Does anybody have a solution for it?

Thanks in advance.

Assuming your computer is not old from 2009 or before. It is because you have a conflict. Your system is set to legacy mode BIOS-emulation. Go to your UEFI, and enable UEFI mode, and disable CSM (Compatibility Support Module).

BIOS can only work with MBR

UEFI can only work with GPT.

Do you want to replace your old drive or run both drives in a dual-drive setup?

I can't seem to disable the CSM.

I want to use them in a dual drive setup. Using my old harddrive as mass storage and my ssd as boot drive.

Maybe some hardware specs are useful.

I am running a Intel I5 4460 on a Gigabyte G1 sniper B6 (rev 1.0) with 8 gb of Kingston valuer am ddr3-1600mhz.

The ssd is a Intel 530 120gb ssd.

It was all bought new. No second hand stuff

Ok I had the exact same problem when I got my SSD a month ago. Here's what I did:
1. Download the Windows 10 installation media here.
2. Run the Media Creation Tool and select the USB option. (USB drive preferably 4GB and up)
3. Wait for the files to download to the USB drive (it took me more than 3 hours at 1 Mb/s)
4. Remove the USB drive and BACK UP FILES THAT YOU NEED in somewhere not in your computer.
5. Go to Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable > UNCHECK Fast Startup
6. Turn of your computer and unplug your old drive. Plug in your SSD. Plug in your USB drive.
7. Your computer will be looking for something to boot, which will be the USB drive.
8. Choose your Language, Time and Keyboard input. Click "Install Now" on the next 'page'.
9. Accept the terms, and choose the "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)"
10. DELETE any partitions which are on the SSD and proceed.
11. After everything is set up, plug in your older drive and take out any files you want (NOT PROGRAMS) and move it somewhere safe and reformat it.
12. All done!

It won't hurt to delete the current partition? Since it says it's MSR (reserved).

On Step 11, I meant that you could take out files which are not rooted to your system such as documents, pictures, videos and stuff like that which can be transferred anywhere and still work. After that, reformat your old drive so that it will be fresh and new. (not like factory condition, but you know what I mean). Step 12, Since your computer is fresh, you can choose what to install onto your PC and download drivers such as those for your graphics card.

Can you proceed without deleting that partition? If yes, then leave the partition alone. If you can't, WIPE IT CLEAN.

And one more thing, how the hell did you download the entire Media Creation Tool that fast? What is your internet download speed?
