is there any kind of programming that is very gpu intensive?

I can't think of any that is. Unless you are testing a gpu intensive program or app. (like a game)

CUDA, OpenCL, hlsl and glsl programming. Thats really about all the routes you can go for GPU programming.

You left out OpenMP, OpenACC, SyCL, HPX, Vulkan, and DirectX.
