I plugged my psu to the multitap(?) because I was told it prevents damage if electricity go out. Is it okay to turn the multitap on and off? My parents say it is okay but I'm kind of afraid it will break my psu. My psu is cx450m

It should be fine as long as your computers off before you cut the power on the strip.

My parents are like since you are not using it, you should turn it off. I leave it on but my parents turn it off

It is not okay to power cycle. The circuitry that protects against shocks is meant to protect from jolts or overvoltage, not from power cycling.

Multitap(?) is just another word for extension cord? With a switch (with light) on it? Just open the extension cord, and skip the button. Just to ignore stupid parents.

If your computer is shutdown turning that switch off shouldn't hurt anything. It would just be like unplugging your pc when your not using it. 

 

Some multi taps/power bars/power strips have built in surge(over voltage) protection so they can help with that, But cheap ones may have just an on/off switch. If it didn't say clearly on the package it has some kind of surge protection then assume it doesn't.
