So I plan to do a 2x3tb raid o so a 6tb raid,  and since I can only do a single raid on my motherboard I need somewhere to back the storage up to, I prefer a wired connection as my home WiFi is slow I was thinking usb type c for the physical connection is there any NAS or similar to this or would I have to DIY it?  I do have an old pc that has the space for this (LGA775)  Pentium E5400 and a gigabyte  GA-G31M-ES2L would this do as a back up or do you suggest getting a proper nas

If you're doing a network based system, then it's obvious you need a network based interface. So USB Type C is out the door. Just set up a gigabit Ethernet line.

I'd also suggest redundancy on the system, so if it's going to cost more to set up a RAID 1 and a gigabit Ethernet line on the old computer, get a NAS Box (or build your own)

I wouldn't suggest raid 0, especially for backups, go for something with redundancy.

A wired LAN connection would be better then usb-c just hook up both of the computers with a crossover cable if you want direct access (will only be accessa le from that computer) or connect both of the computers to a switch/router.

RAID 0 in my pc raid 1 for the back up(maybe I didn't explain well)  I was thinking since I'm going to be using the ethernet to connect my pc to the routerand there is only 1 ethernet port,  and I don't think I have enough lanes? (6700k 2x gpu,  M.2)

my pc = raid 0

Back up, = raid 1

I was thinking I could use the type c on the back to connect my pc to the raid 1 back up rather than network?

And I'm quite a new and networking so I want something that's essential plug and play but reliable

If you need a USB interface, get an external enclosure. USB is not meant for connecting two computers together (there are transfer cables, but they were meant for migrating Windows PC data over). Otherwise you have to use Ethernet. If you want something more or less plug and play, get a NAS box or similar (like a WD My Cloud).

You can find gigabit pci cards or a usb to ethernet connection if you are concerned about lanes.

A NAS is network attached storage. You can't use USB C for it, unless you use a USB C to Ethernet card/NIC.

Because it is a network, you connect several computers together, using switches and hubs. Your router should have several ports, so the NAS plugs into that, which your PC also plugs into. It isn't host to client like USB.

I know what nas is called,  I don't actually know what I need besides reliable 6-8tb external back up thing,  but I'll look into

Why do you need two wired Ethernet interfaces?

I know that a wired connection is faster and more stable than a wireless connection to an access point, but why do you need two wired network cards in your PC?

So I can do wired to the nas so I don't have to transfer over wireless

You only need one NIC for a wired connection to your NAS.

A NAS is a network storage device. You connect it to your network. Do you understand basic network topology? Devices connect in a star configuration. Several devices can plug into your router or network switch.

Using two NICs and bridging would be really over complicating things. Just plug your NAS into another port on your router or buy a gigabit network switch.

So if I plug the nas into the router and I plug my pc into the router will that work?

Transfers between any two given ports should happen at "wire speed" meaning the router won't significantly slow down the data, and the data won't slow down other users. The only time having the data go theough the router can slow down other users is if the data actually has to make it onto the router's CPU, which should only happen for traffic that is going to the internet.

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:
