For gaming, no.

for rendering and cpu heavy programs, depends if you do it a lot.

Pretty much this: it would mean less hassle to just keep your motherboard and ram and the performance jump just isn't worth the upgrade from haswell to skylake (Probably not even to Kaby from what we've seen on the leaked stuff)

the i7 will do better in some games (specifically ones that can use multiple threads) than a i5. but at 60fps the i7 won't do much
