Engineer: We have finally managed to create this powerful CPU. It was very difficult, we had actually made a previous CPU that simply was inferior to this new one even though they both run on the same socket.

Marketing Director: That's wonderful what do you plan to do with the inferior CPU?

Engineer: Well we plan to throw it away.

Marketing Director: No! Instead lets make more CPU's like the inferior one and market them as the best CPU's money can buy. We can also put ridiculously high prices on them since we have no competition. Infact we can call it Sk******* and then a couple months later after sucking our consumers dry, we release the Superior CPU's and call them Kab*******. That way we can make even more money. (cue the evil laugh)

Engineer: That's genius! Muahahaha

That's not how it works.

You do realize it takes a long ass time for shit like that to become affordable?

in all fairness, if AMD was competitive prices would have dropped/performance would have increased more.

The Kabylake 7700k so far isn't posting that impressive of the results we would expect from the marketing they have made. They may have done this backwards where they released the superior version first then the crappy version.

We wait to see/confirm that. Plus the 7700k will not be the best performing CPU within this Gen. I believe the more superior i7's will come later on.

Yeah, the i7-7950X or whatever will come (Skylake-E) then the i7-8950X (Kaby Lake-E) but that'll be the end of Kaby Lake.

The 7700k will be the top of the line on the consumer platform. With the exception of the 2700k and the 4790k Intel hasn't released a "superior" chip from the same generation -- and even then, the 4790k was just fixing a few issues with the 4770k and the 2700k was just an irrelevant clock speed bump.

But as always, the enthusiast platform will release at some point later on (and of course will be superior).

It isn't not new news that Kaby Lake is just a refresh (slightly better version) of Skylake.

I think they may actually skip Kaby Lake-E or Skylake-E just to bring the enthusiast platform back in-line (6~ months behind) with the consumer platform.
