Hi guys,

I'm considering the X99-E WS board for my audio rig. Main reason is I would like the PCI slots for expandability with Pro Tools HDX, Thunderbolt and a nice GPU for some downtime gaming.

When looking at the ThunderboltEX cards that Asus offers, it seems as though the card needs to be installed in Slot 2 on the WS boards (the standard WS and the USB 3.1 version). Can you think of any reason for this? Provided that it's plugged into the thunderbolt header on the motherboard, would it not work in any slot (like it appears to on all the other thunderbolt capable Asus boards)? If it is the case that I can't plug it into any other slot but slot 2, am I correct in thinking that most GPUs will need to be installed in slot 3 or lower, as installing the GPU in slot 1 would block slot 2?

Hope this makes sense! Thanks!

Try too help.. I think the Thunderbolt would be work in any PCI slot at your ws board. I recommend your GPU always on the top PCI slot for the best performance. Then when you see the other free slot under the GPU, I think its good to use it.

Hope this help :)
