Mods for locally hosted minecraft server?

Right now I have a vanilla minecraft server set up for me and a few friends on my desktop computer. I was wondering if it was possible to add server mods that would not affect the client's ability to play, meaning the player would use the basic launcher. I'm not very good with mods and would like to add a few if possible. Thanks!

Server side mods?

Only really basic stuff, like coloured text, custom messages, custom commands, etc.

 

Search for "server side minecraft mod ______custom text____" or whatever you're looking for.
