Thats not true.

2500K Is not a bad cpu but its old. And there are 1000000 (lol) other cpu's from intel better than the 2500k lol.....

So please dont pay attention to this guy's comments,

Also, I would pick the 2500k because its intel xD lets see a video :

As you can see, the 2500K wins the race !!!

Go for the 2500k !!!

Enjoy !

thats because the 2500K is clocked at 4.5ghz....... which is slow most of them do 4.8ghz+, it runs cooler than newer cpu and oc's higher, its a better cpu even if it isnt faster, also they are about £50 rather than a crappy 6600K which is.............. £210................. lol

What your point ??? I said the 2500k wins...

Also even if the amd was clocked at 4.8 ( if it was ur point )

Im 99.99% it wont beats the 2500k.. Also you could oc the 2500k to 4.8 too...

So winner : 2500k obviously...

Thats all stupid and irrelevent info.

The 2500k is a 2500k and its 2e gen i5. Will stay 2e gen i5.

Just the 3rd gen is way better. just so u know, theres a 4th, 5th and 6th gen. Now you know

ivy bridge is slower. its doesnt oc as high so ends up being slower, its also got crap tim under the heatspreader, so you have no idea what you are talking about.  i have owned multiple of all of those cpu's apart from the 5th gen. i only have 1 of those.

The main point was that the 2500K is less than 1/4 of the price of the newer platform while being less than 20% slower so its better value.........................

better does not mean faster................ the 2500K is the best cpu intel ever made and probably will ever make.

now have you got any videos that show doom performance of the 2500K vs fx8350 or are you going to keep spamming useless videos?

Stop acting like an arrogant fool that think hes a pro because he has 9K posts on a forum and owned 100000 cpus.

Not because i've owned 1000 cars I'm a pro driver. Same for you.

Also, sum1 arguing about the 2500k being the best cpu of intel, lame.... with the exp you have, you should have learned sumthin but some people never learn :)

@Jumper118

Did the 2500k take your virginity or something? You have the biggest hardon I have ever seen for a cpu. Are you telling me the 2500k is better than any other cpu? Even 6950x? Come on bro, be a little realistic.

And to answer the thread, buy a newer cpu please. You can get DDR4!!!

well DDR4 is what makes skylake great. Without DDR4, skylake would be no more amazing then Broadwell or a slightly OCd haswell CPU.

INcidentally, getting high speed DDR3 will often have the same effect on older CPUs, like the 2500k, as DDR4 has on Skylake.

which should I choose for doom?

FX will give you more features then Sandy Bridge. Their boards have more features at lower cost.

Sandy bridge will have better minimum FPS and less microstutter.

For AMD FX i would suggest getting a ASRock 970A G/3.1, ASUS 970 GAMING AURA or a GIGABYTE 990FX GAMING. These are the best "budget" boards that will deliver the best of the features you can get.

For those arguing that "omg AM3+ and Sandy Bridge only has PCIe Gen2. Gen3 so much better for gaming"... read this:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/R9_Fury_X_PCI-Express_Scaling/

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Impact-of-PCI-E-Speed-on-Gaming-Performance-518/

now with that out of the way, let us add some disclaimers.

Both are fine for 60Hz (aka 60FPS) GAMING. ANYTHING ABOVE 60Hz GAMING WILL REQUIRE YOU TO GET A NEWER CPU ARCHITECTURE!.

For these old CPUs it is highly reccommended to use NVIDIA GPUs.

Reason is that AMDs graphics drivers uses more CPU horsepower then Nvidias to run the driver itself. This wastes CPU resources and further hold you back.

For these old CPUs, it is HIGHLY reccomended to get FAST RAM

Faster RAM helps reduce latencies, which in terms help improve CPU performance. It can, in many ways, have a profound effect on gaming performance.

Mind you, the difference between a 1600MHz DDR3 2x4GB kit and a 2400MHz DDR3 2x4GB kit is like 5-8 USD, for DDR4 the difference between 2133 and 2666 is about 7-10 USD...

The added cost is so small compared to the potential performance boost, i say potential because not all games see improvements, that it is worth it.

remember, faster ram has NO NEGATIVE effect on performance, it only cost a little bit more. Look at it in the context of buying faster CPU or GPU. We happily spend 50-100$ more on a GPU or CPU to gain 5-10% performance. Well, you can spend 10$ on faster RAM and get 3-5% performance....

FASTER RAM ON INTEL BOARDS REQUIRE A "Z" CHIPSET

please refer to motherboard manufacturers compatibility list before buying RAM kits. It shouldnt be a problem regardless which kit you stick into the board, but hey, better be on the safe side.

well, both of you arent totally right, nor totally wrong though. However i'd say, out of the two of you. You're the one which is closest to being factually correct. The other guy just posted videos made by a massive fanboy.

Wtf kind of metrics do you use to determine whether a CPU is better if not it's actual performance? o.0

Don't get either. Both are really old and lacking in modern features. I'd get a new i3 over either of these if I had to buy something cheap right now.
