So earlier today i was given, for free, an older dell XPS Desktop. Not completely sure what to do with it but it seems like it would be a small upgrade compared to what i have right now.

Ill really only be doing light gaming and it would only be for a couple months till i build something better, most likely.

Current Laptop:

Intel i3 3120m

8 GB ram

Intel HD 4000

Win 8

The Desktop:

Core 2 quad Q6600

2x Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT

4GB (ddr2) Ram

some crappy old hard drive

I haven't booted it up yet because I'm about to order some thermal paste to replace the old stuff, or whats left of it.The hard drive would be completely scrapped and replaced, along with a fresh copy of win 10. And i would eventually buy a 8gb set of ram for it. Anyway assuming it works, what should i do with it?

The desktop is actually much better than the laptop you have right now. You can buy stuffs that your can carry on to your next PC like PSU SSD HDDs etc.

Good point. That might be what i end up doing considering my very limited budget for a pc anyway. And i was even thinking of very slightly overclocking the cpu, depending on the temps i see when its under load.
