Strange Performance in Overwatch (GTX 970 + AMD 880k)

hedghehog

This is a weird one.

I've found that no matter what settings I put overwatch at I get extremely similar fps results (About an average of 60fps, 40-50 in demanding environments). I have overclocked my 880k to 4.2GHz

Possible reasons why:

-Overclocking

-Bottle-necking

-Something in the Overwatch settings (I doubt this as I have reset them to deafaults)

-Bios settings

(If you want to request some images of my BIOS I can upload them to imgur through my phone, my motherboard is: Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-HD2 V3.0)

See attached for what my BIOS looks like (Photo from internet)

Thanks for reading/helping!

Most likely a bottleneck from the CPU.

Then why would the performance be the same on Low and Ultra?

Because the CPU is holding back the GPU. That or you have vsync on.

Vsync is not on.

Sooo even if I have all setting on low I can't get above ~60 fps that sounds so weird but whatever.

Thanks for your help! :^)

Oh, just one last check, what's the CPU and GPU usage during your game?

Something like openhardwaremonitor or the monitoring thing that comes with MSI afterburner (which runs in an overlay over the game).

Nah, this CPU will bottleneck a 970 in games like The Witcher 3, but in games like Overwatch it's more than fine.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

Well, what else could cause his FPS to be stuck at 60 with any settings without vsync on?

I had an Athlon X4 750K @4,5GHz with a 970 for a short while, it's not that bad tbh. Though I'm not sure, did OP reinstall drivers and the game?

I have re-installed the drivers. What would reinstalling the game accomplish?

Ok so here are the results:

GPU

Max: About 60%

Average 30-40%

CPU

Pretty much in mid to high 90% the entire time

CPU bottlenecking hard :P Ideally, you want both to be 100% but that almost never happens.
