ok so were buying a new house that does not have ethernet and what means my dad is not going to run any ethernet cable up to the 2nd floor. so where going to have the router on the 1st floor and all the pcs on the 2nd floor so whats a good network card for this?

So you tell me you guys got a NEW house without ethernet? What kinda country are you in? If it's new, they might have just patched phone jacks instead of ethernet.

My native language is C++

Plenty of houses don't have ethernet here in the U.S.....

Hmm depends on your budget, but regardless of it don't get a USB network adapter, they're bad. I know TP-Link has some good PCIe based cards, but again, it depends on your budget.

not sure about a budget just a good one

Woah there, no need to go THAT expensive, that's more money than I put into my SSD. I think the 30 dollar price point is where you start to see real returns on your money, although I don't know of any specific models. I can try to look though :)

my SSD was more then this card

whats power line?

You plug it into the wall near your router, then connect that to your router using Ethernet. Then plug another one in by your PC and connect it using Ethernet as well. It uses your power lines in your house to transfer the connection. Here is a link to one.

Oh, it worked for me i am on the 2nd floor router on the first, its even faster than the wifi! I would check before buying anything though.

True, Asus is really good with making things look good so they can charge extra. This one is fine though, your ISP is going to be a bottleneck long before the card ever will, it's reliable, and doesn't charge you an arm and a leg because it's "OPTIMIZED FOR THE BEST GAMING EXPERIENCE" (a load of marketing manure if I ever saw it)

how will it handle being upstairs?

Yup, actually really shitty ones too. Used the cheapest USB-based adapter I could find for a while, needless to say it was terrible. But even my eight year old laptops don't have a problem with signal strength, it's the actual speeds they can't handle. That's an extreme, though, and for modern, not shit cards the main issue is reliability, which the suggested card manages to deliver on at a reasonable price.

also why dont all houses have ethernet?

Because it's a pain to install into the walls and people don't even use wired connections much anymore?

The first part sure. But the bit about most people not using wired? I'm not so convinced. Sure tablets and phones are more common than laptops and desktops these days. But there are other networked devices around the average house. Your TV for one and the devices connected to it. Consoles and media boxes etc. Also if you have a fairly large house you can plug in multiple access points to improve coverage.

Not that it helps at all with the OP's question but still. I do think that Ethernet through the house should be a fairly standard thing. Nothing beats it for speed and reliability. I wouldn't want to go back to the WiFi/Powerline dark ages. It should be standard in new builds and one of the first things people do when they move into a new house.

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing
