Strix 970 Running Hot

Hey guys, I have an Asus Strix 970 that is running hot. Everything is Stock on it. Not overclocked.

 

While running Unigine Heaven Benchmark it will reach up to 90c+! And it ramps up to that very fast, within 10-15 seconds.

 

The case has adequate cooling, and the card is hooked up correctly and all that. Fans are spinning up just fine, they are getting to %80+ and it's still getting hot.

 

What are some ways I can remedy this issue?

 

I was thinking about taking it apart and putting some Arctic Silver 5 on it.

 

RMA is not an option.

 

Currently I just make sure to have the Temp Target be the priority, so the clock speed will dull down. That will keep it safe for now, but I'm looking for more of a fix, because the card will clock itself down to 800-900mhz.

 

Would a Bios Flash fix something like this?

 

I have 2 of the same card, and one card doesn't have the same issue, they have different Bios' so I was kinda thinking about putting the good cards Bios on the Hot card. What ya think?

Definitely clean the fans, heatsink, and replace the TIM.

 

If this doesn't fix it, then consider updating the BIOS.

Fans are all clean, no dust or anything.

 

Thanks, I was just wanting to make sure to do the right things, and see if there wasn't anything else I was missing.

Just got done doing the Thermal Paste.

 

Made a world of difference. :) I think that's what it was.

 

Weirdly the paste that was on it didn't look bad.
