Adding more RAM question

I just bought 16 GB of RAM but it's looking like I'll need 32. If I buy the same ram will I know immediately if they are not going to work together well? I could still return the 16 and just get all new 32, but it would just be a pain.

As long as it's the same speed or faster than your current one, you should be fine.

I don't know why they wouldn't work with each other (if they're all the same Gen, of course)

You can just download more RAM off the internet...everyone knows that.

 

In all seriousness though, there's no reason why it wouldn't work, especially if it's the same manufacturer and running at the same speed, with the same timings. If they don't work well, your PC will most definitely BSOD or fail to boot, so you'll know quite quickly.
