hi, guys

Current setup and situation!

we own three separate systems in the premises, everyone downloads media / documents etc on their own systems and usually transfer data through USB but two of the systems are USB 3.0..meaning slow transfer speed on one PC.. current ADSL modern + WiFi is ISP provided ..so its s crap

Need help/Advise,

firstly i am thing about buying a new ADSL modem and a WiFi Router with some sort of USB port which will allow me to use USB stick/Portable hard to make a local sharing files & media with the rest of the systems attached to the network by wire and WiFi.( can this work... ?)

Secondly does ADSL and Wifi modern being in the same device effect the performance? or should i buy separate?

Thirdly kindly recommend TP-link and D-link adsl and WiFi routers for the said purpose( tp-link more preferred as its easily available and reasonably priced here) but do tell any other bands too... i will check the market.

Kindly answers the questions separately, Thanking you in advance!

i would stay away from TP-link because the wifi card i had was increadably shit and i wouldent trust them for a second tbh, D-link would be better IMO. TP-link probably has some good stuff but i wouldent get that anyway. anyway yes a USB stick plugged into a router or similar would work fine but thenagain thats just USB 3 speeds maximum so that bottleneck is still there. i would look into an affordable NAS solution or possiably building your own one if you have an old PC or something laying around or something

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Just FYI, but USB 3.0 speeds would far outweigh LAN speeds, depending on drives of course... approx 550MB USB 3.0 and approx 115 for Gigabit LAN.

(edit) To add to my post,  you would be better off getting something like a WD mycloud as it's cheap, hooking that up to the router/switch whatever and using that. Even better would be a proper NAS, either pre-built or purpose built to make use of the Gigabit LAN, assuming all your PCs/devices have Gigabit. If they don't all have gigabit, or you are using wifi for some of them, then forget it and stick with USB in my opinion.
