Dell XPS Developer Edition (Ubuntu) review

Awaiting your review on Dell XPS Developer (Ubuntu) edition, which seems to be the best Linux laptop in the market. Also, I would like to hear about your experience with Linux (in recent times, not few years back), with distros like Elementary OS, Ubuntu, Debian etc.

Surprised Dell is pushing the XPS laptops for 'developer' use.  I think most developers would be happier with the Latitudes (particularly the E7470, E5570, etc.) that support the easy attachment of dual external screens through the docking station and the longer on-site warranty provided primarily by US-based tech support (instead of offshore!),  Not to mention a real Ethernet port because not having one in a professional laptop is just trouble waiting to happen at some point.

Is the hardware different from non-developer non-Linux version? If not, I don't see point. LMG, or rather Linus, has made it clear they aren't into Linux. They would be worst people to review something which relies so heavily on OS being different from competition.

If you want to hint them for review, tag some. Or post into official and monitored threads:

What should I review next?

What product would you like to see us review that we haven't yet?

I get that if you're not into something, you're not into it. But as members of the tech community and as people whom many in this community look up to, I think LMG are missing out on a significant element of the tech/PC world that is Linux by not covering it and rarely talking about it.

It's Linus' choice to cover it or not and I respect that. LMG have a lot on their plate as it is. But I will say that there are a lot of people out there who probably would love/enjoy learning/using Linux if they knew just a little more about it, but stay away from it because LMG doesn't cover it. Just slows the rate of awareness/adoption, IMO.

It's not something that should be avoided. It should be embraced by the tech community and those who have larger voices among it.

I agree. They have been siding topics with SteamOS and Vulcan talk. But thats about it. While they don't directly support grey market Windows for low budget builds, somehow its always hinted that low budget system would still have Windows as primary option. Linus should just take a dip and revive iSwitched. Month of using Linux for his primary OS.

One of the reasons he may not want to do this is because some of the programs he runs/uses on a daily basis may not run natively on Linux. But, there are ways around things like that. Logan and Wendell over on the Tek Linux channel have shown how to do just that (run windows-specific apps in Linux). I think if Linus or Luke were able to demonstrate this, it would go a long way in showing people they don't need to be so scared of Linux. It really is an amazing OS. :)
