RX 480 Brands...

Go to solution Solved by DrMacintosh,

MSI all the way. They make a quality cooler and I have had excellent experience with MSI.

After so many back and fourths on should I get the rx 470 or the rx 480, I saw that it could run a full 20fps higher on some games and deicded on the 480. But something that I never understood was the different brands. The rx 480 is most popular with Sapphire or MSI on it. Is there any difference? It's the 4GB one btw. Honestly, the MSI one looks cooler so I'm prob gonna get that one anyway ( i know D:) but is there any actual difference?

If you can go with the 8 gb version. Sapphire and MSI are both great, but MSI is my preferred choice in that scenario. The reason for doing 8gb is that with less than 6gb some current gen games are starting to see bottle-necking with high - ultra graphics as they are using much more of the onboard GPU memory.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

sapphire, msi, or powercolor this generation. asus and gigabyte are know for making terrible amd cards, and i would avoid xfx this gen since they seem to be lacking vram cooling (at least on the 470 i have)

GN reviewed the 8gb variant, if you're going RX 480 go for 8gbs of VRAM

Although I'd stick to the RX 470, even this shitty blower cooler one is pretty solid for 1080p gaming

Far as your RX 480 choice, check out actually hardcore overclocking, he's coving a lot of RX 480 cards

the Sapphire nitro 8gb card is probably the one to get though, or maybe the ASUS Strix depending on pricing

MSI has rewards for buying their products (point registration). Sapphire and XFX both have removable fans. Also, Sapphire is an open supporter of unauthorized resellers because of their dumbass PR guy Ed, so buying from Sapphire supports their unethical behavior.

MSI has rewards? I mean, it sounds like some dumb "register for a chance to win out of a million people" type of thing. But I'm going with MSI, based on popular opinion and the card looks so much cooler.

You register your products for points, then use the points to redeem prizes. It's guaranteed and as long as you're a customer you get extras guaranteed. :P

Sapphire used to be like that until they went crazy. Now everything is a raffle. You can join those without owning any of their products anyway so you're not missing out.
