Hey Guys!

I've recently been paying a whole lot more attention to what i put in my computer hardware wise, meaning i don't just look at the highest number in the name of the thing and instantly think its better. I've also been dabbling in overclocking and successfully OCd my R7 360 to 1300MHz core clock and 1950MHz memory clock. Why go so in depth on my GPU? because i'm looking for recommendations for a new CPU to match (as i'm not comfortable overclocking that, i'd rather fork over the cash for a new one), or whether this one is fine for now and the bottle neck lies elsewhere.

Current Hardware:

Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A88X-D3H (AMD A88X Chipset), it has a FM2+ socket

CPU: AMD A10-7700k 3.4Ghz

GPU: PowerColor Radeon R7 360 (Personally OC'd to 1300MHz Core/1950Mhz Memory)

Drive: (Dont laugh) WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD

RAM: 8GB

Feel Free to ask for anything else

Also might be good to mention that i'm running games on a 1080p 60Hz Monitor (1920x1080)

Going through my computer, that HDD may be a bottleneck as well...

How much are you willing to spend on an upgrade? And what's your current RAM?

The HDD is fine it will just boot slower than say an SSD

Anyway the best value bracket for CPUs is generally an i5, but you never mentioned a budget

You're gonna need a new motherboard, and possibly ram.

If you're ok with waiting until Feb-spring Zen and kabylake will be releasing around that time.

If you aren't ok with waiting, an i5 6500 or a i7 6700 if you have a bigger budget.

Or an i5 4690 or i7 4790 if you want to keep your ddr3 ram.

That is the best I can do without knowing your budget

the WD blue 1TB isn't a shitty HDD. yes its slower than a SSD but it does do around 175 MB/s read and write so that aint bad at all compared to my old ass maxtor drive.

From what I see, he has an AMD FM2+ motherboard. So @DragonKing258, do you want a new mobo/chipset? And like other have asked, how much RAM do you have?

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Your hard disk is fine. Pretty much all of us have 7200 RPM HDDs, at least for bulk data storage. It's a rational, cost-effective storage solution. There are marginally faster HDDs, but in order to get drastically better performance that you can see and feel, you'd pretty much have to have an SSD.

It might hurt your Windows boot times and some of your games' load times, but it's not going to affect framerate performance once you're actually in the game.

I'm not looking to buy a new one, but if its really the weakest link in the chain i'll look into it.

Here's the thing, you will not find a significantly better cpu for that motherboard, period. Yes there's done slightly higher clocked cpus available, but you wouldn't notice it.
