I've been looking at laptops for a little while now and I can't decide on what will be best. I have a great knowledge of hardware but I don't want to buy the wrong laptop. I'll list the three I'm looking at below.

  • MSI WS60 6QJ-638US
  • Aorus 15.6" X5 With the 6820HK
  • 2016 Macbook Pro (Whenever it releases)

I will be using Photoshop and want to do some medium gaming but nothing that intense. I don't have an OS preference.

How about the dell xps 15? Very light, portable laptop that can have a quad core i7, a Gtx 960m 2gb, and 32gb of ram.

I have looked at the dell XPS, but I was looking for something with a little more GPU power.

If you're looking for a bit of value, i would not recomend the Mac Book.
Myself i have good experiences with MSI products.

But do you need such a powerfull PC for Photoshop and some gaming?

I will also be doing some work with Spacecad5, and a couple other programs for some Aerospace stuff. I don't want to over buy but I want to have a little headroom.

The first 2 laptops are going to have crap battery life. The Macbook is going to have crap connectivity and a mirror for a screen. And none of them have particularly good keyboards, which if you're going to be programming, might be a pretty major factor in your enjoyment of the device.

Do you really need a quad core and a dGPU in your laptop? I manage 'not that intense' gaming on my i3 4010U.

WS60 was good during it's day. But it's hella oudated now. Terrible battery life.

Aorus X5 not released yet. 980m was barely acceptable in last gen. 1070 this gen is alot hotter. So unless they did something it'll overheat.

Macbook 2016 is alright we just know nothing about it.

Fair enough. I will say that the xps 15 is really designed for your type of workload, it can handle some light gaming, and it has excellent battery life and portability.

Honestly, I'd be more than happy with something like a Razer Blade Stealth. My only real tip is to not get a 15" laptop. Get a 13" and than me later ;)

That's just personal preference. 15in is perfectly fine. 13in is too small for me. Honestly depends on OP. What is not personal preference is that the RBS is a bad ultrabook. Poor thermals (can't believe I have to mention that since it's a 15w ULV), bad quality control, ridiculously shitty keyboard, worst-in-class battery life.
