Will PC building eventually end?

I for one think that it will just get more and more complicated to build Pcs. And Laptops for one are getting more Pc Parts, so maybe not for now 

 

PC: Alienware 15 R3  Cpu: 7700hq  GPu : 1070 OC   Display: 1080p IPS Gsync panel 60hz  Storage: 970 evo 250 gb / 970 evo plus 500gb

Audio: Sennheiser HD 6xx  DAC: Schiit Modi 3E Amp: Schiit Magni Heresy

PC building has gotten a lot simpler over the years.

pins space?!! What? We already have solutions for non based silicon chips. The way of the future I see is your phone is connected to a server that does all the processing and you just use it to dock into base stations for desktops and so on. Your phone will be your own and it will contain all your passwords and data. Probably won't be a phone though

Just keeping this here as a ISP's love their shenanigans by throttling data that isn't theirs (like the infamous Netflix vs Comcast case) because these companies refuse to compete. In fact, it should be a conflict of interest to have a media company like Comcast also be able to be a Service Provider which can then tell you what sites will be acceptable. They further demonstrate this by having data that doesn't count against any caps like their own streaming services. They in fact called that data inside the LAN (or outside their "provider network") despite going out to the internet. 

 

If ISP's wanted to end they could end caps and just apply QoS so if you've downloaded 50GB that day you slow that connection a bit and give someone else a chance. No, instead they just complain about bandwidth while doing nothing to upgrade their infrastructure. Verizon is even worse because they have fiber to home so it's expected that data caps would have to be risen - 4k video streaming or god forbid game streaming is going to be a pipe dream in this country. I hope the FCC does something but this government doesn't inspire confidence as you have people who understand nothing about technology heading committees used to enforce and protect technology driven mediums like the Internet. Docsis is a step in the right direction but we need more competing lines for fiber at least in large urban areas. Lots of cities are starting to petition their governments for this.

Except the Government has gotten so large and corrupt that they think they can say what we can and cannot have, and it's working they are trying to take our guns away, one of the most basic rules in the constitution designed to prevent the Government from getting too powerful. But the Government is a power hungry machine that cant be stopped, and sadly, moving to another country is out of the question because most countries are worse off than America. And once the Government takes away our guns then whats stopping us from becoming a dictatorship? or worse... a land where consoles rule the country... Anyway I fear the world will eventually turn into something like what Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

I stand by my statement because we're arguing semantics. Yes, the United States is a relative new country but the North American portion of the United States is ancient. Those other countries I listed are ancient as well but the key word here is that they are developing. If you're putting down new infrastructure it is s easy to think hey we need Internet running to this new road we're building vs. Hey let's tear up this old road and put in fiber. 

 

More urban density and smaller populations have improved others countries abilities in that matter and if the US was more interested in our ability to invest in technology and science rather than war and corporate protection then we could possibly have the best Internet in the world as opposed to 36th place.

 

This does bring up an off topic but interesting discussion as to why zoning is so stringent on maintaining less dense areas and maintaining suburbs knowing full well that having a denser urban area would be better for everyone transportation and development wise. It could possibly be personal American preference to not share a yard with our neighbors but that will only work for so long as available residential housing requirements must keep up with demand.

That's from your education I guess. American have a sense of proprietary which is solo immense compared to other.

Like people need to own everything. But since not everyone can own proper houses, you build small terrible made houses and create the subprime crisis :)

In France for instance, we have a few ISP but mostly 2 who can reasonably build fiber networks. What happens is that the government has split the territory in 4. Two areas are the zone which are being cabled right now by each ISP. The rest is what they have to build until their deadline is finished. That accelerated the access to fiber.

Honestly I don't think they are going to integrate CPUs and GPUs in foreseeable future other than maybe in low end motherboards. Something I can see happening is RAM being integrated.

 

We only need to go slightly over 10 years back to having 128, 256 and 512MB of RAM be normal. We got a sudden growth and now we have plateaued. I built my computer 6 years ago and put in 6 gigs. Even though I have upgraded it to 12 the original 6 would still be mostly enough for everything even now. Most system builders still put in 8 even today. So we don't really need continuously more and more RAM anymore. There's also all these new speeds and dual/quad/etc channels and they all mean very little. We could pretty much take how much RAM you need, double it and always have enough of it for the lifetime of that system. Right now motherboard makers could put 8 gigs in low-end, 16 in mid-end and 32 gigs in high-end motherboards and it would please like 99% of the buyers. The mb makers have like a million models anyway so they could satisfy all kinds of needs you might have speed/amount wise. For professional use they could still make separate ECC RAM.

 

I guess they could also start integrating flash memory to create super fast OS drive but obviously you could still connect your storage devices.

Well I live a minimalist lifestyle and will be building a home around 300sq.ft but a majority of Americans couldn't picture living in something so small. That type of building is easier to maintain, easier on the environment, and easier on the wallet. A home is just a solution to a problem after all. You got to remember that most homes in the US were constructed in the 1930s and shortly after WW2 (1950's) so yes, they didn't use the best technology available to them and that's when the craze for building bigger took hold. Prior to that people were living in houses the size of most people's kitchens today.

 

I don't know if it's government intervention that we need but we certainly do need government to break up monopolies and trusts - these limit and stifle innovation. Either the government should take over the lines or have their own and open them to use by any company or public entity.

Well I see most customization devices being built outside of the PC (external graphics cards, storage, etc.) Again, like tablets (although one could argue they go this way because of the size) I think we will see integrated storage (that you will need to know what you're going to need beforehand) as well as GPU's are definitely going to be a thing (especially since NAS's have become far more popular for storing data). Intel is already catching up to AMD in the APU, on die graphics market which can actually play some games on medium settings. If they figured out cooling they could certainly integrate the GPU directly on board. These newer GPU's also consume a lot less power so that's why we're seeing laptops that have full blown 1080's in them.
