Id get a 450/500w psu

Id also get 32gb of ram

Yea i might go for 32gb if i need it plus this build would choke on a 500w. As im going to be oc'ing and 850w gives me headroom for expansion

500w is more than enough.

moderm pc parts use very little power

A 750W psu is enough for SLI or for a single GTX 1070 you only need 550W.

BeQuiet coolers are a PITA to install. They are very good though.

Ahh sheets. Itl be worth it i guess and really ik i can get away away with 550w but like i said its for headroom.

How can you justify your computer build to be better?

Why is there a need for 2 CPU coolers? Picking out 2 CPU coolers makes your whole computer build invalid.

Bad choice for a power supply unit and G. Skill RAM modules have one of the highest failure rates in the memory sector.

@Napalm360

Please ignore anything this guy suggests. He posts the same crap builds regardless of what you ask for. Just stick with your original build or go with Herman's suggestion if you want a 6 core build. I would change the ram for 4 x 4GB on X99 though to take advantage of quad channel.

With all due respect I may have to agree that that PSU is an overkill. A 850Watt 123 pound PSU for such a build is just insane unless you plan to SLI 1080s.

Try this build.
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/GLhqHN

  • You get 16gigs of great looking ram (sorry for going for the typical black&red "gamer" look).
  • The Motherboard has an inbuilt wireless receiver so no need to buy an external one.
  • The i7 6700k should be more than enough in your case, I see no reason for spending more money in the 6800k just to slightly increase editing performance (while possibly lowering DX11 or even DX12 gaming performance).
  • Noctua is love noctua is life.
  • The Zotac GPU is just great for the price. (You can set the LEDs to red to match your build colors)
  • An EVGA 650W fully modular supply should be more than enough (you probably wont be able to run SLI on it so if you plan to get the 750W variant)

Have fun

EVGA's G2 is one of the best power supplies out there and costs next to nothing for how incredibly high quality and well-performing it is.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Again I wouldn't call 123 pounds "costs next to nothing". I do not know what Buzzsaw meant by his comment but he could very well mean "It's too expensive for this build so it's a bad choice" instead of "it's a bad power supply".

Ah, well if it's too expensive then that's fine, an EVGA GQ or B2 is a smart and inexpensive choice.

Yup that or (as I did in the build I posted) you can just get a lower wattage one. I just went with an EVGA G2 650Watt it should be more than enough unless he plans to SLI.

As long as you SLI 1070s or 1080s you'll be fine.

And with all due respect to you, have you read the thread properly ? Maybe look at my very first reply ?

Noctua cooler kills the aesthetics. As good as they are, a Brown fan doesn't really go with a Red/Black motherboard. Also D15/D15S > D14.

The Crucial MX300 is better value.

I have read almost the entire thread (even though I did miss your first reply). My comment still stands though, no matter what "bullshit" Buzzsaw was posting at the start I think his argument about the PSU being a bad choice still stands not because of the brand/series but because of the price/power, there was no need to be aggressive to him for that part.
I didn't know you could SLI 1070s on a 550Watt PSU, it sounds pretty brutal.

Yes I did think of the ugly brown noctuas but you can always replace the fans (linustechtips version) or buy a different cooler if you want to keep it nice. I didn't choose the D15(S) because they were too expensive so I went with the most silent one at that price.

The reason I didn't pick the crucial SSD is because I've read a lot of negative reviews about the reliability of certain models. However since I personally have no experience with that product I will not argue.

SSD/Cooler aside would a 550Watt power supply be better for that build? Because I find it a bit limiting.

EDIT: After visiting a PSU power calculator I'd rather pass on the 550Watt PSU. It may be able to run 1070s SLI but it's a bit too close for comfort. Sticking with 650W one is a better choice imo.

What argument are you talking about ? In my first reply I clearly stated that a 750W psu is enough for SLI (Or 550W for a single gpu). Bullshits reply doesn't have anything to do with what I posted. And as for being aggressive towards him the guy deserves everything he gets. He blatantly ignores any advice and tries his best to shout you down. I am on his ignore list now apparently so it doesn't really matter.

Why change the cooler then ? The BeQuiet looks nicer, and they are just as quiet. The only downside is the installation.

Crucial SSD's are fine. And don't take any notice of psu calc websites because they give out bullshit figures.
