It depends on whether the poor audio is due to hardware or software, if it is software then you might find other apps that will improve the sound, however if it is hardware that is crap then there is no app on the planet that will make it sound better.

If you mean like headphones as the hardware well my headphones are pretty good i use senheisser 280 pro's. I'm just not sure if its the software on the phone or hardware on the phone

sorry, no, I meant the hardware in the phone, Does it have a decent DAC? Does the output stage have a low enough impedance etc?

the impedance seems to be fine and i researched the DAC. People are saying its a qualcomm dac which is not as good as s4 (wolfson). Not sure why but i just feel like my iphone 4 was even better for audio (internal of course)

your not the first person to come to that conclusion, many people agree that the Iphone has a better audio solution than most phones.  Probably a result of Ipod R&D.

If the DAC is the reason the audio isn't that good then there isn't much an app will do to fix it. Maybe some eq app will mask it a little?

im hoping, ill just download some i guess and see if it makes a difference. I like android and these phones but the audio on iphone is a bit of a deal breaker for me hence why if apple brings out that bigger phone i'd have to switch back

So we can conclude that the hardware in the HTC one isn't that bad then. :)

Linus recommends using Apollo instead of PowerAmp in his latest videos. Besides, Apollo is free (and open source). You can get if of F-Droid if you'd like to try it out. And if you do, tell us if it is a noticeable improvement.

Didn't Linus make a video on the Sennheiser Momentum Blue to give it a re-review because his previous review of the Sennheiser Momentum - paired with HTC One sounded crap due to the phone?

Edit: Nvm, read wrongly! Will an external amp help?

Update: Did Linus remove the video? I can't find it anywhere, was it because Linus gave an honest review of how the cans felt bloody uncomfortable on first use due to how tight they are?

Clarified with Linus, he will put up another revised version :)

No, it's still bad. The phone has a very high output impedance. No app can fix this.

how high is it?  How can an E.Q fix high output impedance without distorting the sound? He said it sounded better with different software.

I think 16 ohms or something ridiculous like that. I think there's software that's built into the phone to make it sound even worse. I think using different software is just getting rid of 1 of the layers.

I just turn off the beats EQ and use Spotify.

That was the One X. I haven't seen specs for the One.

Yeah, I haven't notice anything bad about the stock player either.
