Hi, new to the forum, Just trying to get some advice since i wanna build a pc for me and my wife for december. Shes an interior designer so shes always on archicad and so on, and i'm a gamer and hobby photographer and videographer. So i'm looking to build a rig that will handle all that. So far i'm thinking

1x Intel Core I7 6700K (Not too sure if the processor will work for this....)

1x Asus ATX DDR4 3000

2x EVGA GTX1080 SC (Not too sure if i can run 2 of the same graphics card in virtualisation... Wouldn't mind switching out one for a GTX Titan for the missus)

1x Cooler Master v850

SSD and HDD's arent really an issue, the above components are the ones i'm most worried about. Also planning of watercooling the whole thing. Gonna put the whole thing into a custom built desk that the missus is designing.

Any advice or feedback would be really appreciated. Thanks :-)

first thing, if your going to build this in december, plan the build in december, not not. There will be new cpus and arts out by then.

Id highly recommend you just build two systems. There is a lot of mess you can avoid by just building two systems.

1. Id suggest getting a 6800k. Your going to run low on ram with just one system.

2. The gpu's look fine.

3. Id run citrix xen on it. That way you can you can passtrhough both gpu's on x99 without having to have a second gpu.

Shes letting me go up to about $3000 but i could probably squeeze in another $2000 with a bit of a fight :-p

Just buy 2 1500 dollar build. FOr that much you can easily get a 1080 and 6700k and a ssd and the like.

Yeah you think? then just ram it into one desk? It'll add alittle cost on the motherboard, cpu and water cooling end, coz then i'm running two pumps reservoirs and piping... but i'll be way easier and i'm sure i could do it that way without blanking out mid process...

The issue is that i don't live in the states, but i wanna order the parts from the states so i kinda need to plan alittle ahead.

You could run it on one loop.

I have worked with lots of vms with gpu's

Its gonna be a pain unless you use thinclients.

No hotswap usb unless  you add 2 pcie usb cards. Your gonna need usb audio cards.

Thanks for the heads up. I havent built a pc in ages so i'm worried about getting in too deep. I'll do a cost analysis on throwing in the second motherboard and cpu and see how much higher its gonnna go...

Id also consider dropping the gpu for your wife's pc to a 1070 or 1060. Arcicad isn't normally gpu limited.

okay imma take your advice, thanks. She uses archicad, 3dmax and a few others. I'll do a bit more research into how much it'll gpu is enough. All her gaming is done on console or her ipad so its mostly about work...

For 3ds max you should buy a 1080.

I think this hardware is good for for needs.

But if you are going for 2 different pcs then you should have a z170 build.

Wow, thanks. That answers everything. so the list above is for a VM build?
