Hi everyone, I've been having this problem for a while now, i had a gtx780 and it made a buzzing elettric noise whenever i played a game and it stopped right after i closed it, the card never had any problem in performance and the temperatures were all normal, now I've upgraded to a gtx1080 Strix, and this one makes the same buzzing too (with some games it stops after a while, like with Overwatch) with other games it just goes on (Path of Exile) and it gets quite annoying if I'm playing without headset, again temperatures and performance are stable and normal, and the card is not even under high stress, i thought that maybe it might be something else's fault since it's the second card in a row to do this

I really don't know what that could be

That's coil whine. Which power supply do you have?

i have a Corsair CX 750 M, and yeah turning VSync on seems to have fixed it, now it's silent, but do you think this can damage the GPU on the long run? i had the other GPU for 3 years and it had no problems

Should i change my PSU?

you could test your card with other psu's but that might not solve it. you might just be stuck with coil whine until you either upgrade or rma your card for a different one.

well that sucks, well i'll see what i can do, thanks a lot

Coil whine and vsync cannot damage the GPU.

If it ONLY happens in super-High-FPS scenes....Cap your FPS.

I have a 200FPS cap.

Why...

By not having your GPU pumping out 200fps or so, the card would no longer be screaming (whine) trying to pump out so many frames under stress.

Coil whine a big complaint,... is its also usually more pronounced at higher fps (eG: 400-4000fps) seen in-game menu's (Game menu's have actually KILLED GPU's due to not having a framecap and the GPU's of lower quality power delivery, some would crap themselves)

I set a 200fps cap systemwide here at home.

I don't use Vsync a lot, and prefer response time over tearing, but when the game is not demanding, my card screams past a few hundred FPS (300+) so thats why I limit mine.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Shouldn't damage anythingin the long run and I think your PSU is fine. If you have any extra power supplies though you could check if it reduces it if you want to be 100% sure.
