If you ran the free upgrade program from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the Microsoft Activation servers will have noted certain characteristics about your PC (namely HDD serial numbers, MAC addresses on embedded NICs, and other relatively 'permanent' configuration data).  Therefore, when you install Windows 10 from updated fresh install media, you can skip entering a serial number and the OS will, upon connecting to the MS activation servers, activate itself automatically.

So no, you won't be needing to enter your Windows 7 key.

no it will be a key which was never used to upgrade to win10 before
as far as i understand you cant upgrade from 7 to 10 but it is still possible to active win10 with a win7 key
when i think about it, isnt that a problem you can fix server side?

If the key was not used to upgrade to Windows 10 before then I dont think Windows 10 will activate on that key as the free upgrade is over.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
