RAM buying help?

Go to solution Solved by D3MON,

3x4gb

nope it still runs in dual channel (You were wrong internet! HA!) just buy 1 more kingston 4gb stick (1333mhz, 1.5v, 9-9-9-24 timnings) and put it in the color coded slot and your done.
you could buy a 2gb stick and have 6gb which is still loads...but yeah id still get a 4gb stick with new consoles coming...you never know.

New Ram usage2

from everything you asked the ONLY performance boost you MIGHT get is time off your current sony vegas rendering thats assuming your cpu, gpu, memory controller (the fact its dual channel even) isn't a bottleneck (i cant tell you if it is), best thing to do is make a video and render it in vegas or whatever, then borrow some ram from a friend, and re test it  (say 3 times) and time the results. if it first took 4mins and now takes 3mins 30seconds you have to ask yourself if $30 its worth saving 30 seconds.. (or however long it takes, i could be WAYY out)
does your stick have a heatspreader? if not buy this..

and send me the $69 bucks I just saved you (kidding you're welcome)

I'm planning to upgrade my 4Gb RAM to 8Gb. I'm wondering if I should just buy another Kingston 4Gb 1333MHz stick or just upgrade to a Corsair Vengeance 8Gb 4x2 1600MHz stick.

Is it best to just upgrade to the Corsair with the 1600MHz or is it fine if I just stick to the Kingston 1333MHz?

Will I be noticing any difference if I end up with the Corsair one in terms of performance?

I suggest sticking with the Kingston 1333MHz, you won't notice much of a difference unless your in certain applications. What programs do you commonly run?

I run mostly games but I also occasionally use Sony Vegas for editing and rendering projects

You will want to get 16GB at 1600MHz if you can afford it. How much are you willing to spend on this upgrade?

Stick with another 2x2gb kit of kingston 1333, custom pc issue 117 tested how much ram do you need. with an i5-3570k oc'd to 4.4ghz, 2, 4, 8 and 16 gb dual channel 1600mhz kits, among many other websites its been shown there isnt much between 8gb and 16gb (I have it cus i had it spare)

Thanks for that info. I'll just stick to 8Gb than 16Gb :)

But my question was if I should just buy 1 Kingston 4Gb 1333MHz or buy a new Corsair 8Gb 4x2 1600MHz.

My build will be 8Gb's of RAM either way but the only difference is that if I go with another Kingston module, it will be another 1333MHz and cheaper (because I will just have to buy 1 stick for my build to be 8Gb). Whereas if I get a Corsair module, it will be 1600MHZ and costs more (because I will be buying 2 sticks).

I'm troubled if 1333MHz will noticeably be slower than a 1600MHz if ever I go with the Kingston one.

I like the way it's already laid out.

It's unnoticeable--it will be the placebo effect if anything.

Your ram is currently 1333mhz, if you buy faster ram it will declock to 1333. i personally like having pairs of sticks, allot of googled pages say 2 sticks will be in dual channel and 1 will be in single channel, this doesnt make much sense to me because the memory controller will still be able to read/write down 2 channels, ill try it first and see gimme a min to reboot.
