Impossible to say, sometimes they last like 10 years, sometimes they last like 2 weeks

TP link routers are pretty great though

if you mean tech wise, they are relatively up to date so should be fine for a good while

Can you give me an educated guess on how long it will last past the 2 year warranty?

hardware is one of those things thats impossible to guess, could last forever

I've had modems and modem routers fail on me from as little as a few days to many years later (over 5 years).  On the other hand, I've never had a router fail  on me.  With hardware you never really know, life is lottery, be lucky.

What you have is two quality brands, which should last in theory many years before hardware failure occurs.

In terms of technology improvements, I personally can't see any innovative changes or technology coming to modems that would give any significant advantage.

Regarding your router of choice, AC support should last you many years, but one thing to keep in mind before you buy.  If you are willing and able to get fiber within the next few years, some routers on the market are fiber ready.  This could save you buying another router in the future if you were to switch to fiber.

As far as the router. The next standard is out which is 802.11 AD. But its not worth upgrading too. Its hard to say how long the AC standard will be relevant. I am still using Wireless N, so yeah. I really can speak for the longevity of TP Link routers, I have a wireless card that has been solid for the last 3 years.

As far as the modem is concerned it should be relevant for a while. Although DOCSIS 3.1 is out, DOCSIS 3.0 modems are going to be compatible still. DOCSIS 3.1 can theoretically give 10Gbps down and 2Gbps up. Also, who knows where your ISP will start upgrading to the new standard. As Comcast is the only cable company I know is actively kinda upgrading part of their network. That modem you linked is better than mine, Mine has a little more it can do as far as speed goes. Ive had my Motorola modem for at least 3 years and my sister probably has had hers for like 5.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
