I disagree with @Electronics Wizardy I absolutely think builds these days need an SSD. They're inexpensive, and improve the overall experience of the system substantially.

All of my builds from here on out will be entirely SSD based, with an external HDD for mass storage.

No you dont, but it is definitely nice. PNY makes some affordable entry level options that would suit someone who wants the speed of an SSD without the desire to shell out for expensive SSD's like Samsung. There are budget friendly ones, and unless you are looking to build a top of the line rig, the entry level options will beat a mechanical HDD in performance. Faster boot and program loads, while using your HDD for mass storage.

you certainly don't NEED it. However, I would personally cut back on any of my other components for an SSD. As far as navigating the OS, launching and closing programs, transferring files, and general computer 'snappyness', there is nothing that will make a larger difference than an SSD. If you use your computer for just gaming, then maybe its not a huge deal, but if you do any work on your PC at all, it makes a huge difference in productivity (for most workloads anyway).

It's not necessary but it almost is if you are going to interact with the system on a regular basis.

A system running off of a ssd is generally much more responsive than one using a hdd and will be much more usable.

Hi there :)

What are you planning to do with the build? Any specific type of usage, applications or games? If it's for gaming ,what games and what settings are you after?

A SSD for the OS would simply boost your overall experience with the system as it would make it far more responsive, reduce the boot/loading time and increase the transfer speeds. It is definitely a great option to improve any build, but it is by no means a necessary thing when building a system.

I would really depend on the purpose of the system if the SSD would be important or not. :)
