Wouldn't that also mean a portable IED though? I realise the phone already is that but there are people who wouldn't deliberately blow up their expensive phone but would happily blow up its already broken removable battery.

Yeah but in that case it wouldn't be Samsung problem, they would have already done their job of making sure that all Note 7 owners have a bomb free battery. Those who get burnt later would have only themselves to be blamed. Same thing happened for Nvidia when they had to recall the shield tablet. Some people, even in this forum, kept the bad tablets even after receiving the new ones.
