So i was playing Dark Souls and noticed the game was running incredible bad (17 fps) when i played it at 30 fps stable, so i check Msi Afterburner and saw that it was only using 310mb of vram of the 2gb my video card has, i tried other game and it was the same so i downloaded a vram stress test and get 1.3gb of vram used.

I don't know if i'm stupid and this is normal or my vga is bad, hope you guys could give me any ideas, thank you!

a 730 shouldn't run any modern game well

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

It's not about that, Dark Souls is from 2011, the problem is that the vga doesn't use all the vram and i don't know why, i'm thinking about a bottleneck.

it's just the hardware you have, dark souls was never a good PC port to begin with, if you want to get more into PC gaming you'll need to upgrade to something man, like even an APU system potentially, more likely an AM4 APU system when they launch soon

I know, but it's not the only game, i tried with League of Legends and it was the same thing, now i tried with Ori and the Blind Forest and the vga used 800mb of vram, that's why i mention it could be a bottleneck.

It's just the fact that it's a 730 GPU, VRAM is just texture placeholder mostly, download like World of Warcraft or something intensive and load up a free character and max out the textures, you should see a spike in VRAM usage even though you of course can't run the game like that

Like, howed you end up with that hardware? They have some benchmarks of a 730 here

Age doesn't say anything ;)

Crysis 1 came out 2007, and your System would NOT be able to run this game maxed out .

Your CPU is a fart-old Dual core CPU (Even a today's 40€ Pentium dual Core is multiple times faster, probably x2 to x3 times as fast).

And a GT 730 is.... really really Weak. It migh thave 2gb Vram, but for those settings, where 2gb are beeing used, your GPU is not nearly fast enough.

Plus, how much Vram is used, depends on the Game engine.

Your Vram is NOT full, that means Vram is NOT your problem.

The Problem is CPU/GPU Performance.

You have a Vram problem, when your vram is 100% full.

oh, i forgot that, https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/N730-2GD3.html:)

edit: full specs
cpu: intel e5300 @ 2.6ghz
motherboard: asrock g31m-s
ram: 4gb ddr2
ssd: kingston v300 120gb

Your issue is that the 730 is god-awful...
