MSI GTX 970

GeorgeKellow

My arctic mx-4 paste came today. I am going to replace my paste on my card. How do I do it? (I mean how to get to the actual gpu chip) Do I just undo all of the screws? Is there a specific way to do?

Depending on the card, it usually goes a bit like this:

- undo the screws (be sure to take not of which one goes where and be sure to put the screws in a bowl so you don't lose them)

- now you would think to just lift up the cooler, but be careful. There is a fan cable connected onto the PCB and it comes from the fan. You can unplug it from the PCB and after that take off the heatsink.

- make sure no thermal pads fell off the cooler

- clean the GPU and the heatsink

- new thermal paste

- connect the fan cable again

- it's easiest having the thermal pad on the GPU, not half on the GPU and the other half on the cooler..

- put it back on

- put the screws back in

- you should be done

You should watch a couple videos of this, I know JayzTwoCents has a couple videos on this subject.

Thank you so much! My  card now sits at 32*c idle and 58 under load
