Heya. I'm in need of a new keyboard, but I'm not sure what to choose. I can get the TKL varmilo for $130 (slightly out of my price range) or a 60% for $65. Both have cherry blues.

My question is: can I hardly 60%? Joe usable is it? My primary pass time is gaming, and I won't be need F keys much. What's the experience like?

I don't like 60% keyboards,TKL fits me better. There are other things on a keyboard that can prove useful, like the modifiers on top of the arrow keys on a full keyboard that you probably won't realize you need until you have been using a shitty laptop keyboard which crams them all in 4 keys+Fn

60% keyboards are way too limiting. Even for just gaming, there are a lot of games that require the use of the Fkeys. For me personally, I tried one out, and absolutely hated the typing experience on it. For a smaller keyboard, I'd say ten-keyless is the way to go. Still small, but not nearly as restrictive.

I love 60% keyboards, so it comes down to whether or not you can live without those keys.

I have both a 60% and a TKL keyboard and I vastly prefer the 60% option.

Then set caps lock to Fn. Then you don't even have to move your hands around the board to do anything. I game on a 60% because they're just better for low hand movement. It's one of those things that takes a little while to get used to though, for sure.

@OP, I definitely recommend at least trying a 60%. IMO, they're definitely the better experience out there (although I definitely do also like 65%, which is a nice compromise.)

I had a 60% keyboard on this tiny laptop and the amount of spelling mistakes and "thinking" about what I was typing, since the keys are spaced differently, never again would I.

60% desktop keyboards have the same spacing.

^^ ahh ok ...good to know.  Glad I got rid of the laptop I was talking about though.  I was using it for a small project and that was the end of that mess.  Come to think of it, I never have seen a smaller desktop keyboard like your asking (now that I know there is a difference between the laptop and desktop ones).

Yeah, all mechs have the same key spacing. It's because you can't really make the switches be any closer together, as limited by the available keycaps, and the size of the switches themselves.
