RX 480 with i3 6100 or i5 6500?

Have a budget of between $800-900 aud (excluding monitor and software) and can't decide wether to go for the i3 or i5....

Only going to be playing games such as CSGO, battlefront and probably some star citizen.

CS:GO is a CPU bound game. I would get a i5 if it's possible.

Definitely the i5. Performance will be much better. Especially with star citizen you will want to have the i5.

And the i5 6500 is very good bang for the buck.

If it's new build and you can get the i5, then go for it.

Trust me, I had an i3 before I upgrade to i5 a month after that.

But the budget was tight and the need is urgent so I had to settle with i3 that time, upgrade after I got my pay the month after.

Yeah, that's sort of the situation I'm in right now, don't desperately need it but my computer right now only runs csgo at 25 fps... On the lowest settings... Ughh

ill be able to wait it out another fortnight though

Mind if we see the other components of the build?

Picking the right CPU and GPU for the job is important, but it would be a good idea to have everyone here look at things like the Motherboard and the Power Supply to make sure you don't end up buying shitty ones :)

i3 should be fine, but go for i5 if ur budget allows

The i3 is fine for games like counter strike, but going to more demanding titles like star citizen as op mentioned above, a quad core is almost a must. And since amd has no good offering there right now, although the new am4 quads might be available soon, an i5 is the only real option....right now at least.

If you can afford the i5, then there's nearly no reason you shouldn't go for it.

Nothing.
