Hi everybody,

I am currently a senior in high school heading into college next year and wanted to start looking for a good laptop for college. I plan on majoring in graphic design, 3d modeling, and mechanical engineering. So I need a computer with great performance.

I would need something with a QHD or 4K display for true colors with adobe.

At least 8GB of ram

Core i7 processor

SSD can be on the smaller side to save money since I have external hard drives.

Price and performance are my main concerns not so much if it looks pretty or not.

I know most graphic designers use a Mac but that is just not for me. I need to breathe.... I need windows. Apple isn't out of the question but I believe there are much better options on the windows side of laptops for performance since I do not need the laptop for just graphic design I would need it for 3d renderings and physics simulations. If you guys have any recommendations it would be extremely helpful I was starting to look into the razer blade stealth and was just curious what you guys had to say.

Thanks

If you like the Blade Stealth, I'd get the newer version of the Blade 14 with the GTX 1060. Much better performance, including a quad-core i7 in a shell almost the same thickness as a MacBook Pro with only an iGPU.

Slightly over OP's budget, but I would agree with you that this is the ideal option.

Is that my best option? especially if I will not necessarily be gaming and mainly need it for graphic design and adobe products.

No. It's a hilariously bad option. The design is nice. Sure. If they fixed their quality control issue it would be nice. Their support and RMA process is still some of the worst in the industry. In addition their cooling system for the laptop is hilariously bad. Basically broken on arrival. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_ZTSMTYdfU, it's also hot as hell and loud as hell. 95C on a fresh non-sustain Overwatch (Overwatch is a relatively light game for the CPU and GPU) load with fan noise being apparent in a loud room full or people talking and game noise.

The blade 14 is also out of my price range and slightly overkill especially for not needing it to game.

If value is your true concern. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-7512GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Processor/dp/B015PZ0EHS/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473387903&sr=1-5&keywords=Dell+7559

4k screen for graphics work. decent battery life (4k drains battery hard). Meh keyboard, meh speakers, bad trackpad (get a wireless mouse like MX Anywhere). Nothing beats this in VALUE. (excluding killer second hand deals)

It's a budget option. Just don't get the Razer Blade Stealth or something with a ULV processor, because it will NOT work for video and rendering.

Two other options are the Asus UX501 with 4k and XPS15 with 4k. These have much more premium builds.
