ASUS STRIX 1080 + Corsair Air 240 fitment clarification

enome

Wasn't sure if this would fall under Graphics card or case topic..

I plan on fitting a ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 in a Corsair Carbide Air 240, but I have yet to find a definitive answer on the the issue.

There seems to be somewhat of an issue with graphics card fitment for Air 240, and in the past 900 series card they did not fit in the Air 240.

I have googled all over the place, but yet to find a clear answer if STRIX 1080 would actually fit in the Air 240.

Does anyone know with some definitive proof?

Thanks

From PC Part picker:

Corsiar Air 240: MAXIMUM VIDEO CARD LENGTH:

12.99"

I know for a fact that my strix 1070 (same cooler) is only 11.75", so you're good to go.  And a compatibility check in the system builder confirms that.

I believe this issue is due to the card's height being more than the usual 114mm or so.

http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=133256 - This claims the Carbide 240 can fit a 135mm tall card. The STRIX is 134.112mm. Plus the PCIe plugs are recessed so you should be able to fit it. If you already have the case with a standard height card, see if you have at least about an inch of space.

it will not fit

Air 240 specs: http://www.corsair.com/en/carbide-series-air-240-high-airflow-micro-atx-and-mini-itx-pc-case

max video card length: 290mm

ASUS ROG STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING specs: https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING/specifications/

dimensions: 29.8 x 13.4 centimeter

it won't fit by 0.8 cm -_-

later edit: it seems that Corsair put that 290mm max length out of their asses:

Spoiler

^ that's a GigaByte GTX970 G1 - 308mm length

---

from the specs, the max CPU cooler height is 120mm, the STRIX being 134mm heigh, it won't fit

It is a tall card, true.  But as i've said, pc part picker has it listed as compatible, and the pci-e plugs are recessed for tight tolerances as you mentioned.

I'm sure that doesn't mean that the... front end of the card? Back end? One of those ends is touching the wall and it's probably accounting for a fan being there.

Could be either accounting for a fan or a AIO water cooler (because you know they want to sell you one :D)

the pic I linked has an AIO rad with fans attacked and still has some space left

@zMeul

thanks for sticking around and answering all my questions all over the forums.

@M.Yurizaki

thanks for the quick clarification

I felt that googling wasn't enough so I decided to look at Air 240 Builds and I came through a picture while you guys were answering my questions.
