$500 with i7-3770 (3.4-3.9GHz 77W TDP) or $300 with i7-3770S (3.1-3.9GHz 65W TDP)

3770 normal. You should be able to find one but definitely way lower than 500$ even in Canada.

S is more energy efficient (65W vs 77W). Uses less power but lower clock speed (3.1 vs 3.4). Same price then go with non S.

The i7-3770 is definitely better than the S variant in pretty much all scenarios, since it has higher clock speeds. However, I would definitely not pay 500$ for one. If you are willing to spend that amount of money, you should go for the i7-6700 instead!

A 6700k currently is $430CAD, and a 6700 is $400CAD, why spend so much on old tech, when the new stuff will be better for cheaper.

Or go for an E3 1231v3 if you don't care about overclocking, and have ddr3, for only $340CAD.

The prices listed are for the entire PC, not just the CPU.

Those are the lowest price I could find.

Heck this PC I am on now, is a i5-4570 and I only paid $400 for it, sure its SFF from HP but its just for the desktop.

I am looking at a potential DIY laptop build from desktop components, as the laptop cpu's mostly all 2 core.
