Hi,

I've been thinking in upgrading my MacBook Pro's HDD to a SSD but I'm having a hard time finding what should I buy. I've read a little on the topic, but it's a little confusing. It would be okay if I get a regular SSD with maybe 256 to 512 GB. What options would you recommend? Thanks!

if your moving from a hard drive, the diference between SSDs is so small it doesnt matter which one you get

But if I was to buy one I go with Samsung one because their disk cloning software called magician is fantastic. As I said if your used to using a hard drive then the SSD model is completely irrelavent. Im talking if your hard drive boots in 2 mins, a really cheap ssd will do 30s and a top range expensive ssd will do 29s maybe, but more likely 30s

I would get a samsung 700 range ssd as they are cheaper than the newer 800s.

Make sure you get at least 200gb if its the only drive on the laptop, if you want to put steam libraries on it or music and stuff then yeah go for larger

The bigger the SSD you get, the more TBW you will have, so it will last longer. That being said, I have a 128GB in my 2008 iMac and it's still running like a top. all storage is handled remotely with very few local files being on the SSD so that did help keep the cost of buying it down (at the time) however if i were to do it today, I would have gone as big as my pocketbook could afford.

These SSDS are both a really good value with speeds of 500Mb/s+ which is more than enough especially considering your MacBook is only SATA 3 3Gb/s. I would personally buy either of these SSDs.

P.S. Really good choice to add a SSD to your system. It can make your PC lightyears faster in day to day tasks.
