Hello guys I have a question about my 2500k yes ik it's old but I think it does great rn I have it oc to 5.1 ghz on 1.42v it's a really heavy oc yes but I'm sure it could go further the temps are 32c idle and 45 load running in a 70 degree f climate it's pretty cold in my room but every time I oc it to 5.6 ghz it runs great for a few hours then it thermal throttles or something slow down and crashes idk if there is a fix to this ik it can go further idk if I should add more volts or upgrade my custom loop hopefully u can help out there's no forums on overclocking it this far and turned to u for help 

 

build 

128 ssds in raid 0 

2 gtx 780tis in sli stock clocks

16 gb ram

custom Waterloop I did myself 

and 1050w corsair power supply thanks

Please run cinebench r15 and post in the cinebench thread which is pinned at the top of the cpu memory and motherboard section. I can helps you. :)

It's not unheard of for these things to get to 5GHz, they were great overclockers.

 

@Ledkirk You could slowly add more voltage to it but don't push it too far.

It could be thermal throttling, it could be sheer instability. Monitor the temperatures all along to see if it's really temps or lack of voltage. Bear in mind that 5.1 to 5.6 is a huge leap. At such a high OC, I'd expect every little additional step to put up a good fight.

The good news is that at 1.42v you are not quite at the utmost limit yet, but keep an eye on the mobo. The VRMs may be incapable of delivering enough power for your target speed, and they will also run hotter and hotter as you increase the voltages and frequencies. Don't fry that glorious setup!

Wait so once I did it I got a score of 656 is that good but it's right under a 3770 i7
