Hello

I'm looking to do my first Build: A gaming pc that also works well for gameplay recording and editing.

I also plan to learn some basics for overclocking.

I would like to have an opinion whether it will work and what I could be better/ cheaper for more or less the same performance

These are the parts i think of using:

  • CM 690 III
  • Z87 MPOWER
  • Asus GTX 780-DC2OC-3GD5
  • Intel Core I7 4770K
  • Z87 MPOWER
  • CORSAIR VENGEANCE 16 GB DIMM DDR3-1600 CL 10
  • Samsung 840 Evo 250 GB
  • SEAGATE BARRACUDA ST3000DM001 3 TB
  • Corsair H110
  • CORSAIR HX750

Total cost here in the EU: €1970

2 questions I already have:

Will the CM 690III support the H110?

Is 750W enough for this build?

edit:

Parts that i decided on after the feedback of you guy's:

  • CM 690 III
  • MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING
  • Asus GTX 780-DC2OC-3GD5
  • Intel Core I7 4770K
  • Z87 MPOWER
  • Corsair Vengeance 8 GB DIMM DDR3-1600 CL10
  • KINGSTON SSDNOW KC300 120 GB
  • SEAGATE BARRACUDA ST3000DM001 3 TB
  • Corsair H110
  • Corsair HX650

Nice build, I would go with a 3770k and a z77 board though, the 5 - 10% performance increase and low power state doesn't justify the high heat output and the little to no overclocking capablility for me.

1) Not without modding

2) 600w is enough for this build, 750w is overkill.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ Stock, CPU cooler: Dark Rock 4, Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX, RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 @ 3000Mhz, GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0, SSD: Crucial P1 1TB M.2 + 2x120GB SSDs, Case: Corsair 110R, PSU: Corsair TX650M, OS: Windows 10 64-bit.

Unless you're doing work in after effects while running 4 games at once, you don't need 16GB of RAM, even for video editing.

A 250GB SSD? Eh, unless you're storing programs on there that you use very often, just get a 128GB SSD.

750W is enough.

indeed smaller ssd and 8 gb ram

aside of that great first build

If you want a sleek design, I wold  suggest you something from nzxt or corsair.

1. yet, it will fit

2. yes and you will be able to add another 780 in the future

Also, get CL10 ram if you can

AMD Athlon X4 750k; Gigabyte F2A88XM-DS2; 8Gb Corsair XMS 1600 Mhz; AMD Hd5670 1Gb DDR3; Bequiet E6-600W; W7 Ultimate x64

Where are you shopping/located?

An i5 would game just as well as an i7.

Why 16GB of ram?

Well my shop that I will use is http://www.coolblue.be

and I will use my pc for more than gaming (I'm also study engineer so ...) so that's way i7

and the 16gb ram was because is sometimes use my pc as server (minecraft) while playing on it the same time. but I'm going to take an 8gb ram, I can alsways later add another 8

Get a cheaper board, wait for R9 290,  get XFX Pro 850W or Corsair RM850 PSU instead and a nicer case, like Define R4, Arc Midi R2 or go higher with Cosair 650D, 750D or Arc XL.

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

Since you're a study engineer, what will you be doing that require an i7? Programs being used?

But i really like that case :P and it's big enough i think,

and for board, i choose this one because I'm new too overclocking. If there are other boards that are easy for overclocking let me know.

for the power supply, why would i go higher? everyone just said that I should go lower than 750W

Any z87 mobo will oc the same. They're all pretty easy to oc with.

well like: Dreamweaver, eclips,(for programming) and Invertor, autocad  maybe in the future other 3D programs,... I also use (not study related) after effects and vegas12

It sounds like an oc'ed 8350 would be the way to go being much cheaper with 8 cores and trades a few blow with the i7 depending on what rendering you're using.

I never thought about it but a dual video card is better than a 780 and cheaper (if i go for the 760GTX or the 280X)

are there disadvantages with having CrossFire or dual sli?

It has more power for the money for gaming but you can run into compatibility issues and you get a bit more heat.

Single card is the way to go if possible.

Every MSI/Asus board will be good for OC, the MPower is for those extreme OC'ers. I think that my Z87-G45 or Gigabyte Z87X-D3H will do just fine, if you wanted better look at Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H or Asus Maximus VI Hero. PSU should be 850W so you can buy another GPU later on, it's the thing you want to futureproof because it doesn't change much.

Thank you for the feedback guy's helped me alot.

If someone want's to add something more don't hold back :P

what is best Gigabyte Z87X OC or MSI MPower Z87?

I would personally go with an RoG board from Asus, I do not trust Mpower, i heard multiple people who had bad boards, while they don't have bad costumer service, just meh - in your case I would lean very heavy towards an Asus board.

Aswell something for OCing, Linus did a video wich is going to really talk to you. Here have a look, this should.. well give you an idea about OC'ing. So for your options. Either grab a relatively cheap decent looking board and buy a dac or soundcard (soundcard if you want a better microphone option aswell as better sound) a dac if you just want better sound. Or just grab an Asus RoG board. They have great sound allready and OC just as good as those "OC extreme Power" boards.

NZXT Phantom windowed, Asus Z77 Sabertooth, Intel 2600K, Noctua NH-D14, EVGA 780 Classified, Crucial Ballistic Tactical, Crucial M4 128GB + Samsung 850 EVO, Corsair RM850, Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Peripherals: Sennheiser HD598, FinalMouse Classic, SteelSeries Qck Heavy, Ducky Shine Zero (MX Brown), AOC G2460PF & Qnix QX2710

Build Log: Phantom - Antique Noctua

Get one you like the look of the most. The mobo won't affect performance.

I already saw that video.

And I don't seem to find a Asus that has the same conectivity for the same price as the gigabyte or the msi...

maybe I'm better with the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming (cheaper and also red like my gpu) yeah I'm going for this one.

If you can spend that amount off money, then you should really consider the Z87 Maximus VI hero.
