Hey so i'm in the process of building a new PC.
I've put everything together outside of the case to make sure its all working. Looks like it does! Here's the Partslist: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Xgrf9W (6600k, 16GB RAM, big enough CPU cooler @60C max.)

So I install a few benchmarking programs and get to work... specifically CAM, CPU-z, and Prime95 for CPU overclocking.

So I tested everything briefly after installing Windows 10, it worked perfectly fine, recognized all the components, each core, frequency, and everything. I updated all the drivers and OS and everything I can. So I fired up CAM for monitoring temps, as well as Realtemp to verify. also fired up Prime95 and after about a minute of stress testing, one thread simply stops. on CAM it shows the core is working, its simply not being applied a load.. what the heck is going on?? I've tried all I can.

Have you turned your computer on and off again? And don't use prime 95 as it creates a very unrealistic amount of load on the CPU, does your CPU core work on other programs?

hello!

is it me you're looking for?

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Yeah I've even cleared the CMOS and reapplied the overclock and everything. I use Prime95 since its free, easy, and very fast and consistent for my OC's. The only other thing thats open is CAM. its a brand new installation so nothing else really CAN run you know? this is so weird. I've never seen anything like it.

Any other stress programs? I don't want to buy Aida64 or I would.
