Cpu Too Hot

DanTheManWithAPan

I have a intel i5 4570 cpu and its temps are 70+ when at desktop. I use the stock cpu, Im just wondering what would be some good choices for cooling the cpu, and whether i should go with water cooling or not.

I suggest bequiet Pro Rock instead of evo 212 from my own experience bequiet does cool better and it is more quiet.

And maybe you got gunked up cpu cooler, and do you have both air intake and exhaust fans ?

Is it idling at desktop or is it running something in the background? 70+ are load temps for a 4570 on the stock cooler, so there could be a problem if truly idling at those temps. Reseating the cooler would be an option in that case.

If you go with an aftermarket cooler, any decent air cooler will do.

First, open up task manager. What's the CPU usage percentage when it's 70 degrees? If it's high (<50%) then kill that process and see if the temps return to normal.

If CPU usage is low, then turn the PC off, remove the cooler, clean off the thermal paste, reapply the thermal paste, remount the cooler carefully, and see if that helps.

If nothing has worked up to this point, then buy a new cooler. No need for water cooling, just get a cheap air cooler like a 212 EVO, an H7 or a Pure Rock.
