Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas could be considered somewhat adventure.  At least Fallout 3 is definitely open world, Fallout 3 New Vegas is a bit less open world (it's open world but you're a bit guided or restricted in what you can access depending on quests)

later edit: you literally replied before I finished writing this post

You should play SOMA , I wouldn't call it adventure game and it's somewhat linear, but it has interesting story and it's satisfying when you finish it.

If you haven't played them, see Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite , maybe even Bioshock 2.  1 and Infinite are different enough to play both.

Haven't played yet (for more than a few minutes to test it) but I heard Vanishing of Ethan Carter is worth playing.

If you enjoyed Farcry and Fallout  games which have are a big part shooters, you may enjoy Metro 2033 series as well, though it's very linear games.

STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl with stalker complete mod is more like fallout 3 in a way, not open world but lots of big maps and quests... probably played it though.

Trine (1 & 2) are nice games, adventure-ish, nice graphics.  Brothers -  A tale of two sons is another game you may enjoy

A bit like Tomb Raider (solving basic puzzles to advance) and a bit horror (but not very scary, more of suspense, thriller), you should check the Penumbra series of games from the same studio that makes SOMA and Amensia dark descent.

The Crew? It's the entire continental US m8.

Also GTA 5 is open world if you're into that kind of game.

unturned

if unturned is an adventure game i'm the pope.

on topic:

if you like following a storyline and/or a deep level of horror (not jumpscares, actually inducing fear kind of horror) i can defenately back SOMA here.
