Hi I need some help to decide which laptop to get.

Only use for this laptop is uni work (Microsoft office), web surfing/youtube(video) with at 5-15 chrome tabs

My selections are:

A1,    Dell Inspiron with    7th Generation Intel® Core™ m3-7Y30 Processor               (4M Cache, up to 2.60 GHz) with 4GB Memory and 128gb ssd ($699 AUD)

OR

A2,    Dell Inspiron with    Intel® Pentium® Processor N3710                   (Quad Core) (2M Cache, up to 2.56 GHz) with 4GB Memory and 128gb ssd ($599AUD)

my worry is that the low base GHz may not keep up in unforeseen cases other set of choices are

B1,    HP Pavilion with       Intel® Core™ i3 Processor 6100U     with 8gb of Ram with 128ssd ($789AUD)

or

B2,    Dell Inspiron with     Intel® Core™ i3 Processor 6100U     with 4gb of ram with 128ssd ($789AUD)

Can you guys give me some advice?

thanks

In A category wins A2 (http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-N3710-vs-Intel-M3-7Y30)

In B category wins B1.

I don't think you need any of B laptops. However try them out if possible for lag.

I don't consider my opinion the best and pls tell me if I'm wrong.

Acer Chromebook R11

Dell Chromebook 13

Make sense, but I am not familiar with Chromebooks and dont feel comfortable using them due to lack of knowledge.

Basically. It has Chrome. And Office. And some google apps (like calendar). And that's about it.

If you think about it, what would you need to use Windows for? You use Windows to open up Microsoft Word and Chrome anyways. If you have other applications, but all means DO NOT use the Chromebook. But for uni and the average user, they are more than enough.

I agree B is basically a battle between Dell and hp; pure spec wise B1 definitely wins but if i dont need 8gb ram i rather dell over hp due to brand reputation(customer service, quality..)

as for As i just dont know which cpu is better.

Well, Chrome like ram like anything else and here, where I live customer service is nonsense. I think @Pendragon is right. Chromebook is like big Android tablet and it's cheap.

Well

Chromebook do seem ok but i  don't want to rely on google drive because my degree is 3 year+ and i hate on going subscription fees for the drive and i do a bit of work on public transports with no internet access also i would like to play some music on iTunes and read through PDFs and traditional laptop provides more flexibility.

As you wish.

Hot tip: If you know, what Linux is, you can use older laptops.

Linux is much more lightweight, so older laptops can run simple tasks without a struggle.

I feel like this generation of kids don't know what Linux is anymore.

Oh, that feeling when your old and crappy Aspire 5100 flies.

One of the reason i need a new laptop is mine is too old and heavy literally.

Check out older VAIO laptops. They're quiet sexy.

i know what it is. its just that my computing level is very basic and i am too use to windows and Linux seems a bit scary.

It's a good chance to start. I got used to it after a year with my old aspire. Modern distress like Ubuntu and Mint are very user friendly and behave like Windows. Also you always can ask on this forum for help.
