Hey guys!

I am in the process of planning my very first buid, I've been gaming on my craptop for waaaay too long now. And I wanna go kinda overkil. Here's what I've got so far:

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k

Mobo:  ASrock Z170 Extreme 4

GPU: ASUS Geforce GTX 1080 STRIX OC Edition

RAM: HyperX Fury 16 GB DDR4

Case: either the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX or the NZXT h440 (depends on wether or not I want to implement water cooling later)

Storage 1: Samsung 950 Pro 256 GB m.2 SSD

Storage 2: Samsung 850 Evo 512 GB SATA SSD (already on hand)

Fans: bequiet! silent wings 3 (amount & size depend on which case I end up choosing)

I'm not really sure on what PSU to choose, I want to keep some headroom since I am considering to add a second 1080 later on...

Costs this far: about 1612 € plus whatever case, psu and fans end up costing

As for peripherals: I have a mouse and keyboard, I can get the OS for free. I still need a (4k) Monitor though.

Sooooooooooo. Any suggestions or improvements? Did I miss anything? I am open for feedback

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably

I would go for a 750W, it should be enough wattage if you're planning on SLI. EVGA G2/GS are fine :)

and ditch the 4k monitor, get a 27 inch 1440p monitor instead.

"Sulit" (adj.) something that is worth it

i7 8700K 4.8Ghz delidded / Corsair H100i V2 / Asus Strix Z370-F / G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB 3200 / EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 / ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q

Samsung 850 EVO 500GB & 250GB - Crucial MX300 M.2 525GB / Fractal Design Define S / Corsair K70 MX Reds / Logitech G502 / Beyerdynamic DT770 250Ohm

SMSL SD793II AMP/DAC - Schiit Magni 3 / PCPP

Old Rig

I'm glad you said that you want to go overkill, because that I7 is definitely overkill for gaming, an i5 6600k would be more than enough, but if you want it you crack on :P

A good quality PSU vendor would be IMO Corsair or EVGA, they're mostly all the same size to keep things easy for us buyers.

Don't go overkill for the PSU unless it's an 80 plus gold or higher rating.

Intel i5 6600k @ 4.5GHz | NZXT Kraken X52 | Asus Maximus VIII Hero | Asus ROG Strix GTX 1070 | 16GB DDR4 Corsair Dominator Platinum @ 3200MHz | CoolerMaster MasterCase 5

Why would I ditch the 4k Monitor if I am planning to go with (maybe even two) 1080s?

For a PSU, I recommend the EVGA 750W G2 (550W if you decide not to SLI).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Actually, the I7-6700K could be a bottleneck for sli 1080's... depending on the resolution ofc and given its 4K then maybe not a noticeable one. Pascal is surely a lightning beetch.

I've never heard about an i7-6700k being a bottleneck for anything ^^

What processor would you suggest?

True, thanks for the input. It would mean gaming on my new machine sooner ^^

yeah exactly. and the fps you'll be getting on 4k will be decent but still not 60fps... i'd rather have more fps and a lower resolution.

I can always crank down the settings until I can afford a second 1080. Two of them should be able to hit 60 fps on 4k, shouldn't they?

Honestly, if you overclock the I7-6700K to maybe 4,6-4,8Ghz, there shouldnt be much of a worry (Pascal has some serious clock speeds tough, especially if you want to overclock them even further). Getting something like a 6900K or 6850K probably would not be worth the trouble of getting them pretty high clock speeds, since theyr base clocks start under 4Ghz.

definitely more than 60+fps on most games.

Keep the 4k monitor gaming at 4k is bloody great.

the thing is, a 4k monitor would be good. but it depends on the games he'll be playing, a 1080 will still struggle on some games at 4k... 1440p would be better until he can get a 2nd 1080.
