What's up people of the forums, i have a question. Should i get the RX 480 or the RX 470? (Don't worry it's not the reference version) I've compared the performance of each and they seem to be very similar to one another. so which should i get? and what kind? (btw this is the last component of my build) Also, if you guys would nicely leave which of the 2 are better aka best aftermarket of each gpu. Thank you in advanced for replying!

Specs: I5 6500 MotherBoard: Gigabyte H170 PSU: Cooler Master 550w V2 Elite. Case: NZXT S340

EDIT: THIS WILL BE IN CANADIAN CURRENCY

The RX480 is better, but more expensive.

If your budget can't fit a 480, get a 470.

If it can, get a 480 and it will perform better.

As for which aftermarket version to get, I always like MSI and Asus cards, but each to their own really.

Hope this helps :)

I agree with what's said here, but would like to add:

For aftermarket versions, it really doesn't matter.  Don't go for the most expensive one (as you could probably just go a step up in gpu for the same price) and don't spend extra on one for the look of its front face, as it will go fans down in your case anyways, meaning you can't see it.

just thought about it for a little and i might as well go with the msi rx 470 gaming x as it matches the rx480 in performance

The 470 wont give u 60fps maxed out 1080p experience, 480 will in some games.

So u decide if u want 60 maxedout or u can compromise some settings.

480 is t prices very well compared to 470 which has much better value.

480 is a more powerful card than the 470.

You have to decide whether it's $70 more powerful or not.

Personally, I'd go for the 480 if you can afford it.

It will be longer before you need an upgrade and you can enjoy higher frame rates/settings for games now.

I don't think the rx480 is worth he extra over the rx470 if you look at the price to performance.

I think it only needs a single 8 pin, which that PSU does have :)

The Red Devil does in fact perform well, but the bigger point to what you said- what extra money? The Red Devil is priced under $300. The only other options you see under the Devil have absolute terrible cooling. (reference, Nitro, can't think of anymore lol)

These GPU prices are too damn high!

You shouldn't spend more than:

- $280 CAD on an RX 470 4GB (memory express, newegg)

- $340 CAD on a GTX 1060 6GB (STAPLES.ca)

The RX480 is so overpriced I cannot recommend it with a straight face. Unless you find an 8gb model for $340 CAD or less. Because you could just buy a GTX 1060 6gb at STAPLES for that kind of money.

I am very pleased with the Zotac GTX 1060 mini 6gb I got from STAPLES. It runs just fine.

RX 470 = BEST VALUE

RX 480 or GTX 1060 = BEST

GTX 1070/1080 = OVERKILL at 1080p

RX 470 4GB is a better grab than GTX 1060 3GB but when it comes to RX 480 4/8GB vs GTX 1060 6GB it is all up to your games and you should compare prices, both are great options for any gamer! :D

I was just going off of the assumption that you already had friends in the states, but definitely does not make sense if you do not already know anyone.

With using CAD, I agree with the consensus, go with a 470.
