can you use ddr3 with i5 6600

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

It depends on the motherboard. The CPU can support DDR3 (technically, it only officially supports DDR3L, but standard DDR3 can work).

Most motherboards on the 1151 socket will use DDR4, but there are some (lower end, normally) boards that use DDR3(L).

the title say most of it

i was thinking of upgradin my pc and i want to know what parts i need to upgrade

ps i know i have to upgrade my motherbord

thanks

you could use ddr3 with skylake but your chip would degrade faster because of the higher voltage of the ram so if you do use ddr3 manually lower the voltage to 1.3v. but then if you do that you might aswell buy ddr3l

Intel recommends not to use DDR3 module in 1151 platform due to its voltage specification. That's why some motherboard manufacturers use DDR3L. It still exceeds the limitation that they put on 1151 sockets. Higher voltages can easily damage the chipset that could lead to other components.
