Hello,

we have been playing Don't Starve Together at shool but online games are blocked so we have to play offline. This however causes problems when you want to play together after school from different networks because it doesn't allow you to change an offline game to be an online game. To overcome this I set up a VPN hosted from my windows 2008 server. The others can connect how ever they cant see the game server that is hosted on my laptop. Is there any way to fix this?

Thankss heaps,

Jared

Can they all ping your laptop when you are all connected to the VPN?

My first guess would be to check the settings for the VPN to make sure all the VPN clients are on the same subnet and aren't blocked from sending traffic to one another.

Nothing is blocked at my school :)

I can just go on pirate sites or other bad sites if I want.

With the exception when the Internet is in test mode, then there are just like 6 different sites I can go on to.

and VPN does not get around that, because there isnt a blacklist system, it is a whitelist system, so if you turn on VPN, you can not go to any sites.

Does probably not help you at all.

would it not be working because my laptop is not connected to the VPN even though the server that is hosting the VPN is on the same network as my laptop?(my laptop is hosting the game)

No they cannot ping my laptop

Yes, you have to connect to the VPN as well. Otherwise they cannot see you unless you do a static route from your VPN subnet to your LAN subnet.

Well, it depends on the type of VPN. But I would connect to it anyway. Just to keep things simple for now.

Unless configured specifically, you probably have to be connected to the VPN for your friends to connect to your laptop. You could probably route the VPN to your home LAN, but it might be easier just to connect to the VPN.

No, just connect to the VPN while you are on your local network. It should work.
