Also known as a fire starter. Replace it even if it isn't the source of the problem.

I would also recommend returning the 960 and getting a 470 instead, it shouldn't be much more expensive, but it's MUCH faster.

Shorting out as in randomly shutting off?

Hmm.

Do you get bad framerates before it happens?

First off, take the GPU off, then reseat it. Take the PCI-E connector/s out and put them in there again.

If problems still occur post here

The monitor has its own power source.

Your PSU has 2 12v rails. You could be maxing one of them, triggering overcurrent protection. You want to make sure that the CPU and the GPU are on different rails (each rail can't handle both together), and also make a list of other 12v devices (HDDs, SSDs, even fans).

Lol I used to run that PSU, sitll have it xD

It's not quite a fire starter. But I suspect it's not very friendly with your hardware.

so i just cheked the connections my gpu is a 8pin connector and my psu has none of those so i have a 6 to 8 pin connector maybe there lays the problem

A 960 can still run off one but your PSU is of craptastic quality so it's best you replace it with something at least tier 3 in the PSU tier list in my signature.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
