Bottleneck Question

Atm I have a Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming / i7 4790k

 

Was wondering if a 3440x1440p monitor would limit my fps in games? (Ie bottleneck due to my system)

No. i7 4790k is a good cpu, in fact is the best you can get for 1150 socket

No, your system is fine for this resolution. You should be able to get 60fps no problem

A monitor does not bottleneck or limit your FPS  , your CPU and GPU limit your FPS - but you do not have any bottlenecks there

You should manage 60fps in most games with high or better settings

I have an i7-6700, it bottlenecked a GTX 980 if I compared it against my i5-4670K. Upgraded to a GTX 1080. Still got massive performance improvements.

and yeah DCI 4k is not 3840x2160 but thats what most displays use

Fair enough but above 24" 1080p is super shit, plus the screen real estate at 1440p is great, fitting so much more stuff on screen for working , editing, documents, web pages and games look so much better - nearly twice the number of pixels if you can push it
